Evaluation nights are a fun way to improve your photography. It works like this. Submit one or two images to evaluations@pacn.ca a couple of days prior to the event. You can submit anything you like, but it has to be your work. Images right out of the camera, or works in progress, are just fine.
At the event, the moderator brings each image up on the screen and the maker may give a quick description of where/when/why/how the image was created. The floor is then opened for respectful, constructive comments. The key word here is constructive. Comments are often positive, but they may introduce another way of looking at things. The whole point of the exercise is to learn how your images and technique can be improved.
As the image creator, feel free to chime in on the comments. There is never one “right” way to do things, and quite frequently, opinions will contradict each other. Lively discussion is what makes these events fun!
Evaluations are not competitions. Your work is not being judged and there are no rankings, or prizes. Images are not posted on the PACN web site. Participants do get one Photographer Of the Year (POTY) point for each image submitted.
Competition eligibility
At the PACN, images presented at an evaluation are admissible in club competitions. That is not universal among photography clubs though; check with their rules before submitting elsewhere.
