The Photo Arts Club of Newmarket, formerly the Country Images Camera Club (CICC), is home to a diverse group of photographers. We shoot with DSLRs, mirrorless cameras and cell phones. Our members enjoy all types of photography from landscapes and nature, to people, macro and artistic shots; you are sure to find somebody with similar interests to your own. Whether you are a beginner, an experienced pro or somewhere in between, there’s a community here to welcome you.
What We Do
Guest Speakers
Once a month we welcome a guest speaker who brings expertise or knowledge on some aspect of photography or shares images from a part of the world that few of us have had the chance to visit.
Workshops
Hands-on learning experiences to try out some new aspect of photography or post processing. Members are encouraged to suggest topics for workshops. Occasionally workshops take the form of a demonstration.
Image Evaluations
Members bring photos on which they desire some feedback for improvement. Everyone present shares thoughts on what is great about the image and ways that it could be made even better. Three evaluation evenings are planned for this year.
Competitions
Competitions give us a chance to receive critiques from trained judges so that we can improve our skills and become better photographers. We hold four competitions each year.
Photo Outings
Several times each year the club organizes an excursion to some interesting place to shoot. Recently we have photographed the Orangeville Rodeo, spent a weekend in Algonquin Park, and shot waterfalls near Owen Sound. Most are day-long events, often close to home, while others may be over a weekend.
Meet-Ups
Less formal than our Photo Outings, members will use our Facebook Group to say, “Hey, I’m going to . . . on Saturday to shoot, anyone want to join me?
Membership in The Ontario Council of Camera Clubs
All PACN members are automatically members of the OCCC, an umbrella group offering workshops and speakers throughout the year as well as the chance to compete in an annual inter-club photo competition.
Membership in CAPA
PACN is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Arts and submits images to many of their club-based competitions. We also receive copies of CAPA’s magazine Canadian Camera for members to share.
